Lars Bender Signs New Term With Bayer Leverkusen

Bayer 04 Leverkusen fans surely enjoy an euphoria this week. The football team won 4-1 against TSG Hoffenheim last Saturday (20/01/2018) and it brings them to the second position in Bundesliga table on match day 19. Their winning can be a celebration to Lars Bender as well who agreed to extend his new term with the Werkself until 2021. On 19 January 2018, Bayer Leverkusen gladly announced the contract extension of their team captain.

There is no doubt that Bayer Leverkusen will secure Bender's future in the team. The Rosenheim-born footballer has been leading the Black and Red since Bundesliga hit its 2015 / 2016 season. He received the arm band legacy as Simon Rolfes retired. Bender joined Bayer Leverkusen in 2009 after the club agreed to recruit him from TSV 1860 München. Throughout his career, the Bavarian midfielder has already made 258 appearances, contributed 21 goals and 26 assists as well. Additionally, this season he plays along with his twin brother, Sven Bender, who joined the team after being transferred from Borussia Dortmund. It will definitely help to boost Bayer's virtue to fight for the Champions League area where they belong.

Amongst his appearances, injury is a familiar term that frequently blows the 28 years old skipper. He had to deal with injuries especially on the last two seasons. Despite this matter, Bayer Leverkusen still put big hopes on his shoulder. Michael Shade, the CEO, stated that Lars Bender plays vital roles throughout the years. He shows brilliant performances that is also supported with his strong commitment and humble demeanor. The Sporting Director, Rudi Völler explains that Bender has the quality of a leader for The Werkself which its team is mainly built by young and hungry lions. "He gives the team security, structure, and stability," Völler adds.


"The mutual trust is great. In the meantime, I feel like I am the part of the team, as part of its story, where we all want  to keep going together in success."


Lars Bender responds to his new contract extension with enthusiast and grateful. As stated in Bayer Leverkusen's official website, during the press conference Bender tells that he decided quickly in signing his contract extension. "Overall that time, the club has been supported me in good and bad times and above all stood by me when I was battling with serious injuries. I am very grateful for that," he explains.
